Description

Zinnia elegans

This gorgeous new novelty zinnia stole my heart during a recent variety trial. Its petite, frilly double blooms are a warm mix of salmon, peach and cream, accented by a striking dark center. They look like mini gerbera daisies or double flowered echinaceas. Long, strong stems and delicate bloom shape make them a winning summer crop and wonderful bouquet addition.

Plant type: annual
Height: 25-30”
Site: full sun
Days to maturity: 75-90 days
Plant spacing: 9-12”
Pinch: when 12” tall
Approx seeds per packet: 25

How to grow:
Start seed indoors in trays 4-6 weeks before last frost; transplant out after all danger of frost has passed. Zinnias can also be direct seeded once weather has warmed.

Harvesting/vase life:
Grab the stem about 8” below the flower and gently shake. If the stem is droopy or bends much at all, it is not quite ready to cut. If the stem is stiff and remains erect, it is ready to harvest. If flower preservative is added to the water, zinnias should last 7-10 days in the vase.
