Description

Celosia argentea var. cristata

Grown for their unique, textural blooms, celosias are vigorous and free flowering. A summer cutting garden workhorse, they thrive in hot and dry conditions. This crested mix is one of the most productive on the market, churning out buckets of berry toned velvety flower heads from midsummer to autumn.

Plant type: annual
Height: 30-36”
Amount of sun: full sun
Days to maturity: 90-120 days
Plant spacing: 12-18”
Pinch: when 6-8” tall
Approx seeds per packet: 100

How to grow:
Start seed indoors in trays 4-6 weeks before last frost; transplant out after all danger of frost has passed.

Harvesting/vase life:
Flower heads get bigger over time, so pick when they are the size that you want, but before they go to seed. Strip 80 percent of the foliage off during harvest. Celosias are a long lasting cut flower oftentimes lasting over 2 weeks. Flowers can also be dried for later use. Hang freshly cut stems upside down in a warm dark place for 2-3 weeks or until they are firm to the touch.
